N95 Use Clarification |
This document includes a grid and FAQs about the use and reuse of different N95 respirators, which differs based on how and where the N95 is being used. Uploaded 01.16.22.
Required N95 Use for COVID-19 and Other Airborne Pathogens
- If you are wearing an N95 respirator while caring for patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection (or otherwise on Airborne or Special Airborne Contact Isolation), the respirator should be used for the entire shift and discarded at the end of the shift unless visibly soiled, damaged, or fails seal check.
Optional N95 Use
- If you choose to wear an N95 respirator for added respiratory protection in place of an ear loop mask, the N95 may be reused for up to 5 shifts; discard it after 5 shifts or sooner if visibly soiled, damaged, or fails seal check.
- If you are working in the procedural and peri-op environment, the only change to your current allotment and rotation plan is to wait 5 days between uses rather than 3. Additional detail can be found here.

Why History Matters: Celebrating Juneteenth Together 2021 |
History is far more than an academic pursuit. It has critical contemporary meaning in the way that it frames current national perceptions and individual realities. During this event, Michael Boulware Moore shares a number of powerful examples – both personal and societal – to illustrate the point that historical narratives have a critical impact on how we think of ourselves and behave. This connectivity explains much of the racial strife and tension that we experience to this day. This handout has more information about the event. Uploaded 6.10.21

DRH Workflow for Inpatient COVID Vaccination |
COVID-19 vaccination is now available for administration to inpatients at DRH, including first and second doses of vaccine, per patient or provider request. Ordering providers should perform a risk assessment to ensure clinical stability of their patients prior to receiving vaccine and request vaccine type based on the patient and/or their preference as well as based on first dose when applicable. Vaccination should be deferred in patients who have abnormal vital signs, worsened oxygenation status, or acute mental status or functional status changes relative to baseline, active COVID-19 infection, or who have received COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatment within 90 days.
At this time, COVID-19 vaccine administration to DRH inpatients will be coordinated by members of the Clinical Nurse Specialist team with the bedside RN. DRH providers should follow this workflow (link to flow diagram) Monday to Friday by placing a medication message for vaccine administration. We ask that providers initiate this process as soon as appropriate during the patient’s admission so that arrangements can be made for administration prior to the day of discharge.
