WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW TO HELP

Limit use of unnecessary masks for family members when exiting rooms and units of patients not on isolation.

Rounding teams:

  • If room door is closed, check that patient is present before donning PPE
  • Limit physician and APP patient visits to those providing direct patient care
  • To the extent possible, attending physicians should aim to round with trainee or APP (vs pre-round) so that the trainee or APP does not have to use PPE twice

Unit practices:

  • Exclude students from visiting patients in rooms on isolation
  • All providers should attempt to bundle care to reduce room entry and exit and should work together to help get additional supplies

Ancillary staff

  • Food services should work with nursing to coordinate tray drop-off for patients on isolation as part of bundling care
